Prepping for a winter hike

We have a few giftcards left over from Allie's birthday, so we decided to take her shopping today! I was really looking for some warm clothing for her as most of her pants are thin or jeans and really wanted her to have some fleece. We headed to the mall and as we were walking in, Brad mentioned that we should look for a snowsuit for her. Why?

He explained that he would like to hit up some easy trails on the weekends to get us out of the apartment and get some exercise. It's also super inexpensive to do on the weekends, once you have the proper gear.

Proper gear...?

We scored some little fleece line "UGG" type boots for Allie as well as some fleece pants. We couldn't find anything heavy duty....so....

We headed south to Cabella's which is like a Bass Pro Shop...but better! We found a nice little snowsuit that would fit her and also decided to try on the the baby hiking backpacks. These backpacks run about $145 new, so we're checking the local classifieds for used ones. We thought we would at least try it out to see how they really felt. They weren't bad at all - as reviewed by Brad AND Allie!!

As we were checking out the hiking gear, we also came across this wickedly awesome chair! I've seen some of my friends post with pictures in a similar chair, but I thought it would be extra cute to put Allie up there because she just looked so tiny.

We only left with purchasing Allie's snowsuit as I realized I have no winter hiking shoes and we wouldn't be hiking this weekend (it started snowing as soon as we left the grocery store tonight!) We may have to accumulate the winter hiking gear slowly, but surely, but I don't think we'll need to worry. Winters (and the snow) often lasts through April and May. We're going to consider the purchases an investment!!
