Underwater Exploration and an Art Fair

Another busy weekend...

Allie and Daddy cuddled up to a book before swimming lessons this morning. She is usually uber excited to go, but she was content sitting and reading!!

Today's swimming lesson was the lesson that made me face my fears.

For the past few weeks - whether it's from the hormones of the pregnancy or the fact that yes - I am an overly protective and worrisome mother...I have been having nightmares about Allie drowning. There have been so many reports lately of children (Allie age children) drowning here in Salt Lake - in pools, in streams, etc...it has my overactive imagination working double extra overtime!

So - today when we got to swim lessons...and the instructor said, "We'll be doing some Underwater Exploration today! Yay!" I honestly thought about getting out of the pool and leaving. But I stayed and listened.

We first started by putting toys underwater and having the kids reach to grab them. We used the steps, so she was only going up to her ear to get the toy. Sometimes, she actually went underwater without realizing it...drinking a bunch of pool water...but that only happened once!!

Then came the scary part for me....dunking them. The technique was awesome. Blow really hard in their faces before submerging them and their instincts will have them automatically close their eyes and hold their breath. As you can see...she didn't have any issues with it!!

Afterward though - she was quite tired and immediately went home and went to nap! She loves playing on that big playground in the back, although, she can only usually manage one trip down that slide...and then she gets scared!!

Look at this tired baby!!

We headed out to the arts festival downtown Salt Lake and she had a blast! We got to buy some art, eat some good food and listen to some good music! Allie loves music and that makes me so happy! She was mesmerized with band that was playing and made sure - even when she was busy playing in the grass - to clap whenever they finished a song!!

These are the art pieces we managed to score from a local artist in town. His company is called Sugarpost and his work is fantastic. I'm going to start collecting his pieces because they are so fun! And it helps that he creates "mini" pieces of art for people like me!
