Day 62 - Shots, shots, shots, shots

I have been anxiously awaiting this day now for 6 weeks. The dreaded 2 month doctors appointment and first round of vaccinations. I have prepared myself for the mental anguish that I was going to have to endure.

We ventured into the pediatrician's office around 10:30. Allie was measured and weighed. We got the most cheerful nurse in the whole world...who couldn't believe how big Allie was...so much so that she measured Allie a total of 5 times...just to make sure! She was 20 inches at birth and now she was 23 inches. Is 3 inches at 2 months a lot? Apparently not that much - she is in the 75th percentile.

Then she was weighed...when the nurse yelled out how much she weighed...the PA looked at me and said, "oink, oink." Yup - she's a tubby one! 13 lbs and 10 oz... That would be the 97th percentile...'nuff said.

Her shots weren't nearly as traumatic as I thought they would be. The first vaccine she got was for the Roto virus and it was a liquid that she had to take orally. That actually went worse than the shots. It took her quite a while to drink the entire dose...and she cried and screamed the whole time. The nurse said she's never had a baby have that much of a reaction (the screaming and crying) to the oral vaccine! We all looked at each other and then I looked at Allie and said, "That was nothing...wait until you get the shots." I was quite proud of her though - she didn't peep once during her initial exam - unlike the last two visits.

And true to form as soon as the first needle went in, the face turned red, the mouth opened wide with no sound for a split second...and then the most gut wrenching scream you've ever heard came out of this child's mouth. I get shivers just thinking about it! But the nurse was awesome and before you could blink - she had her 4 shots over and done with. She only cried for a few minutes and by the time we were out the door - she had calmed down and was already drifting off to sleep.

We've had a rough time at home - she's been super fussy and the thought of laying down when we first got home made her mad. She would start crying at the act of being laid down! But eventually, she drifted off to sleep and has been doing pretty well. I've been checking her temperature every few hours in fear that she'll run a fever...I know - I'm THAT mother...

But this was too cute to pass up - Bana bought her these cute little strap protectors...and I think she looks even chunkier than normal!!!
